Developing Women to
Strengthen Our Communities

For more than 80 years, the JLM has responded to the needs of our community. We have awarded millions of dollars and countless volunteer hours to worthy organizations in Montgomery.

Our focus area is "strengthening families." Our members are committed to improving the lives of others with programs that address areas such as parenting, health and well-being, early childhood intervention, life skills development, domestic violence, education and children and youth in general.

Our membership of more than 800 women contributes over 20,000 hours in volunteer services each year. (read more)

Community News

On Thursday March 14, 2008, Junior League member Katherine A. Jackson was named a Woman of Distinction by the Girl Scouts of Southern Alabama, Inc. Katherine, along with Judge Lynn Bright, Chief Justice Sue Bell Cobb, Roberta Collins, Jenny Ives and Lois Jenkins, were recognized as women who model the ideals of the Girl Scout mission – courage, confidence and character. Some of Katherine’s volunteer activities outside the League include conducting pro bono consulting for other non-profits like Brantwood Children’s Home and the Family Guidance Center. She has also served on Leadership Montgomery’s Board of Directors and the Jimmy Hitchcock Selection Committee. Elizabeth Brent, CEO of the Girls of Southern Alabama, noted that Katherine and the other award recipients were true heroes for young girls to emulate. Congratulations Katherine!
