Montgomery Area Non-Traditional Equestrains - MANE
Montgomery Area Nontraditional Equestrians (MANE) is a nonprofit organization formed in 1994 that provides safe and effective therapeutic horseback riding to area children and adults who have physical, cognitive, and developmental disabilities. MANE offers a variety of opportunities for service. Eleven volunteers from the Junior League will assist with the fall riding session (Sept. 16-Nov. 22), serve as photographers, and help with special events that raise awareness and funds for the organization. Many clients and students who participate in MANE’s programs are referred by the Therapeutic Recreation Center and Montgomery Area Retarded Citizens. Others discover MANE through newspapers, radio, television, and word-of-mouth. MANE also approaches organizations that administer to individuals with specific needs. One organization, the Family Sunshine Center, has received funding from the League that allows the participation of ten clients in two MANE sessions.
